Delta wants passengers to name price for being bumped

January 14, 2011

The airline is now taking bids from passengers to see how much they would want to be compensated for being bumped from a flight.

Passengers are asked to enter a dollar amount when checking in online or at an airport kiosk. Delta will then accept the lowest bids.

Typically, other airlines offer bumped passengers travel vouchers worth $200 to $400.

This comes as the Department of Transportation considers a plan that would require airlines to pay customers as much as $1,300 dollars if they are involuntarily bumped to a later flight.
