The accident happened at 1:30 p.m.
Emergency crews say Kenneth Puplava of Portage, Ind. was hit by a beam while working on scaffolding. He was transported to the hospital's emergency room where he died.
Puplava was part of a crew that was working on major construction projects at the hospital.
OSHA investigators responded to the scene and the general contractor, Chicago-based Pepper Construction Group, has promised a full and thorough investigation.
