Zinc supplements can help fight colds

February 15, 2011 (CHICAGO)

A review of 15 previously published studies was undertaken to determine if Zinc supplements had any effect on common cold symptoms.

It found Zinc is beneficial in reducing the duration and severity of the common cold in healthy people when taken within 24 hours of onset of symptoms.

Also, the risk of developing a cold was reduced by 36 percent.

But the adverse effects included bad taste in the mouth and nausea.

Also, the author could not determine on the basis of their current analysis, the correct dosage, formulation or duration of zinc supplementation.
