Man on foot struck, killed on Eisenhower

An SUV hit the man -- who was on foot-- on the eastbound side of the expressway near Central.

It was not clear Saturday why the man was on the expressway. However, some reports Saturday referred to the man as homeless and said he was trying to get to the car he was living in, according to state police said.

Police say the man was was in the left center lane but was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The driver of the SUV stopped, according to authoritie, and was not impaired. No citations were issued.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:34 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

ABC7 is not identifying the man at this time.
