AG asks Google, Apple about tracking on mobile phones

April 25, 2011 (ELGIN, Ill.)

The concerns are sparked by reports that iPhones, iPads and Google Android devices are collecting and storing information about a user's location. The coordinates, coupled with a timestamp, are reportedly unprotected.

Madigan sent letters to Apple and Google asking what information is being stored, for how long, and what it's used for. It's part of an ongoing effort to protect consumers' personal information online.
