Brizard would like year-round schools, longer days

June 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Jean-Claude Brizard is my guest this week on ABC7's Newsviews.

Brizard, who was chosen in April by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, says longer school days keep students off the streets and out of trouble and give them a better education.

"If I had my way, you'd see year-round schools," Brizard said Thursday. "I know our teachers understand that as well. And some of the teachers I've spoken to tell me that to get the literacy rate to where it needs to be, and to know where the kids are coming from, we need more time to make that happen."

You can see Alan Krashesky's entire interview with Brizard on Sunday morning during our news that begins at 8 a.m.
