O'Hare to start transition to 'risk-based' screening

This summer, O'Hare Airport will start testing new security screening procedures to allow pilots to speed through checkpoints.

The pilots will be pre-certified, so they will be able to skip the scans and pat-downs that passengers are subjected to.

The Transportation Security Administration says it is the first step toward transitioning to risk-based screening.

Officials call that more logical than the current system of treating pilots and passengers as equal potential security threats.

They say the streamlined security procedures may also help lines move more quickly for passengers going through security.
