According to our news partners at the Daily Herald, the fire erupted while 60-year-old David Mugerditchian was inside his backyard shed.
Neighbors say they heard multiple explosions.
Hoffman Estates fire investigators are still investigating the cause but believe it was accidental.
Mugerditchian was well known to firefighters in the community because he once saved a neighbor from a burning home in 1997.
