The 55-foot Colorado Spruce chosen for Chicago's official Christmas tree will soon be heading for Daley Plaza.

Chopper 7HD was flying over the Spangler family home in Western Springs as the 83-year-old tree was chopped down this morning. A crane hoisted the tree onto a flatbed truck for the trip downtown.

This is the second time the Spanglers entered the tree in the contest. Last year, their tree lost in the final vote.

The Spangler family will help light the decorated tree during an official ceremony in Daley Plaza Thanksgiving week.
