Attorneys for Rod Blagojevich have started the process of appealing his conviction and prison sentence.

The former Illinois governor was convicted of corruption and sentenced on December 7 to 14 years in federal prison. The 55-year-old Blagojevich was ordered to begin serving his prison term on March 15.

His attorneys filed the first paperwork for appeal Tuesday, but it could take several weeks, even months before the case gets to the Appeals Court.
