Parents, hospitals welcome first babies of 2012

January 1, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Representatives at Advocate Christ Medical Center say Adrian Karol Kois was born less than one second after 12 a.m. Sunday. He weighed 9 lbs., 10 ounces and was 22.5 inches. His was a natural birth. So, no planning was involved. Adrian's parents are from southwest suburban Worth.

However, Illinois Masonic says its first baby was born at exactly the same time. Mom Amanda Novoa delivered a girl who weighed 6 lbs., 6 ounces and was 19 inches long. The baby girl did not have a name yet.

Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge says its first baby was also a girl. Haylee Bree Dufkis was born at 12:19 a.m. to her parents, Nicole Marie Klemond and Joel Dufkis. The family is from Mt. Prospect.

Haylee weighed 6 lbs., 1 ounce and measured 19 inches.

Amanda Novoa said she is overjoyed by her new bundle of joy.

"My new year's baby," she said of her daughter, Lamaya. "I was shocked, they said she was the first one in the city. I was like oh my god, I didn't even expect it"

Not only was baby Lamaya a surprise pregnancy, but a surprise arrival too.

"I was expecting her in two weeks but I guess she decided to pop out."
