Report: Local bank robberies decreased last year

January 2, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The downward trend actually started about three years ago. ABC7 Chicago news partner the Daily Herald reviewed FBI statistics and found there were 112 bank robberies in Cook, DuPage, Kane and Will counties last year. That's down from 181 holdups the year before.

The area had its peak in 2006 when bandits hit 284 banks.

FBI agents credit advancements in technology for the reduction. More banks have installed high-end security cameras which help authorities track down suspects.
