Police issue alert after NW Side strong-arm robberies

Police say that in these robberies, a lone male has approached female victims on the sidewalk and robbed them of purses, money and cell phones.

The incidents have been occurring in the late evening and early morning, according to police.

The most recent two incidents were in the 1700-block of W. Wabansia on Wednesday and in the 1500-block of N. Hoyne on Tuesday. Police also included six reports of strong arm robbery from December in the alert.

Police described the offender, a "male black offender, described as 18-39 years of age, 5'08"-6'06", and 150-180 lbs." They say that in two incidents, "the offender was described as having dreadlocks." Descriptions of the offender have included a gray or brown hooded sweatshirt or a black puffy coat.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious people or activity in the area and be aware and alert neighbors about these incidents. People with information about the incidents are asked to call Area 5 detecives at 312-746-8362.
