'Occupy' members to gather at G8/NATO planning talks

January 17, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Chicago is the first city to host both conferences at the same time since London did it back in 1977.

With world leaders in town and many protesters expected, the city plans to limit vehicle access in certain places while the summits are going on. City officials also want to amend the codes for the summit, including giving the Chicago police superintendent the power to deputize law enforcement personnel.

Also, fines for those resisting police or aiding in escape would be raised to $200 to $1,000.

Public parks would be closed overnight until 6 a.m., as well, rather than the current 4 a.m.
