Chicago Heights HS student injured in hit-and-run

March 19, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Matthew Brown's family has been visiting him daily at Advocate Christ Medical Center since the accident on Saturday. He was crossing 14th Street near Wentworth in Chicago Heights when a brown or maroon ford explorer struck him, shattering his right femur.

"Just broke it in half, blood vessels were torn that needed to be repaired, the nerve is damaged. They're in the process of just trying to save that leg," said Sanetta Brown, Matthew's mother.

Seventeen-year-old Brown is a member of the ROTC at Bloom High School and hopes to join the Air Force after graduation.
