Researchers closer to finding baldness cure

March 21, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Male pattern baldness occurs when hair follicles shrink and grow tiny hairs that only last a short time. Researchers have discovered that bald men tend to have an abnormal amount of protein called "Prostaglandin D-2" on their scalps.

Drugs stopping the action of this protein may delay or stop baldness. Some companies are already working on such medications. The research comes from the journal of Science Translational Medicine.
