It happened about 2:30 a.m. at LaSalle and Division.
Police said Jesse Bradley was crossing the intersection when he was struck by an SUV.
The driver, a 21-year-old woman, fled the scene but officers caught up with her a couple of blocks away.
Bradley, a law student at Northwestern University, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators think alcohol might have played a role in the crash. Charges against the driver are pending.
