"The Moovers" are nine girls who are all sixth-graders at Woodlawn Middle School in suburban Long Grove. FLL Robotics encourages interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and teaches life-long skills in leadership and teamwork. In January, The Moovers won the first place "Champions Award" for Illinois (out of 288 teams). They now advance to the U.S. Nationals in Florida in May. In addition, they have been invited to represent Illinois and the United States in the 2012 European Open in Germany in June.
The Moovers are: Claire Haas, Veronia Sobhy, Abby Starr, Isabel Lee, Anisha Rao, Rachel McCoy, Alexandra Reuter, Katie Chiasson, and Allison Chen. They come from the communities of Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills and Long Grove. The girls and their coaches Laurie Haas and Rhett Starr brought their robot into our ABC7 studio to show off what it can do.
