In the wake of national tragedy, Chicago remembered its own massacre.

The Eastland Disaster Historical Society honored the victims of the SS Eastland, which sank nearly 100 years ago.

The US Coast Guard and musicians joined a ceremony to commemorate those lost in one of Chicago's most horrific tragedies.

This year marks the 97th anniversary of the July, 1915 Eastland sinking.

The vessel toppled into the Chicago River, taking more than 840 lives.
