Held during the celebrated Evening Gourmet Farmers Market, this fun food filled event will showcase the ever-popular flavor of garlic, known for its culinary and medicinal purposes. Attendees can sample a variety of garlic creations from out-of-the-ordinary garlic ice cream, candy, cupcakes and cocktails, to the more usual pastas, sauces, breads and butters. The smell of garlic will surely lure people from all over the Midwest to Highwood's Second Annual Garlic Fest. And, there will be plenty of breath mints on hand.

Bent Fork Bakery's Roasted garlic-chile-corn cupcakes with garlic herb cream cheese frosting
- 3 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 2 tbl baking soda
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 2 cloves roasted garlic (whole cloves baked at 400 for 1 hour in foil lined baking dish)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 2 sticks melted butter, cooled
- 1 tbl. Sour cream
- 2 tbl honey
- 1 cup drained canned corn
- 1 small can green chile's, drained well
Stir all dry ingredients together in bowl. Beat all wet ingredients (Except corn & chiles) together in separate bowl. Pour wet into the dry and beat on lowest speed, until they are incorporated. Mix in corn & chile's by hand, divide into 12 lined muffin cups. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely, and top with frosting.
- garlic herb cream cheese frosting
- 1 package Boursin Brand garlic herb cheese room temperature
- 4 tsp butter
- 4 tsp cream cheese
- 2 cup powdered sugar
In mixer blend together first 3 ingredients until fluffy, slowly add sugar. If to thick, thin with cream or milk, 1 tbl at a time.
