NewsViews: Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle

January 6, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The New Year typically brings new taxes and fees. But there is some relief in 2013 for those who shop in Cook County.

The final portion of a 1 percent sales tax increase implemented under former board president Todd Stroger has been rolled back.

Some businesses welcomed the cut, saying the higher tax had driven shoppers to neighboring counties with lower taxes. Current board president Preckwinkle says it will also save consumers money.
