Lettuce prices double after freeze hits Arizona

January 15, 2013 (YUMA, Ariz.)

Lettuce prices have more than doubled out west due to freezing temperatures.

The prolonged cold has damaged romaine and iceberg crops in southwestern Arizona. That area provides much of the country's leafy green produce during the winter.

A carton of lettuce jumped from $8 two weeks ago to $25 this week. That is expected to drive up lettuce prices for consumers.
