Dart wants to beef up enforcement of the state's Firearm Owner's Identification system and expand the reporting of those who are prohibited from possessing firearms, including those with mental illness.
"We clearly can't let these people sit on arsenals of weapons and say that's ok," Dart said.
The proposal would also extend supervision terms for felons and gang members convicted of weapon charges. That would be increased from 3 years to 10 years.
