Macy's is making big plans to make this holiday season a profitable one.

The retailer is breaking a 155-year tradition and will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Macy's will be open for 24 hours straight, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The department stores at Water Tower Place and Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie also say their stores will be open on Thanksgiving night.

But they're not certain whether the stores will be open for extended hours.

Macy's has not responded to requests for an official response.
