Elijah Allen, 11, collapsed on the Vista Heights Middle School football field while playing with other students. Officers say they responded to the campus and witnessed school personnel performing CPR on the boy. Allen was later transported to an area hospital where he died.
Authorities say the boy had a medical condition which may have contributed to his death. The coroner has not yet said how the boy died.
The Moreno Valley Unified School District says crisis counselors will be at the school for any student who needs them.
