Mel Reynolds deported from Zimbabwe

February 24, 2014 (HARARE, Zimbabwe)

The former congressman pleaded guilty to violating the immigration laws after his arrest last week. His attorney argued that Reynolds didn't renew his visa because he suffered a minor stroke in January and "wasn't in the best of health."

Another charge of possession pornography was dismissed by a judge who said police did not have a proper prosecution order. Reynolds allegedly had pictures of naked men and women on his iPhone 4S. A conviction could have resulted in a hefty fine and two years imprisonment.

Reynolds, 62, has not said where he going after he leaves Zimbabwe. He lost his congressional seat in 1995 after being convicted of statutory rape.
