A very special honor was given to a World War II veteran wounded in combat 70 years ago.

Staff Sergeant Richard Faulkner received his Purple Heart medal this weekend decades after his plane was shot down.

He was the only person from his crew to survive.

When he returned home after the war he was offered the Purple Heart, but turned it down.

He said he didn't think he deserved it because his comrades were killed.

A year ago he changed his mind, telling his family he wanted the medal for his grandchildren.

This weekend, he got his wish.
