Small plane hits hangar at airport in McHenry County, FAA says

HARVARD, Ill. (WLS) -- A small plane hit a building Wednesday at an airport in the northwest suburbs.

The plane damaged part of a hangar at Dacy Airport in Harvard, Illinois, video of the scene showed.

The Harvard Fire Protection District responded to the crash site around 1:20 p.m. for a report of a crash and fuel leaking from the plane.

Chopper 7 was over the scene in McHenry County. Local police could bee seen investigating, and police tape surrounded the small airplane near the damaged building.

"A single-engine Cessna 182 veered off the taxiway and struck a hangar at Dacy Airport in Harvard, Illinois, around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Only the pilot was on board," the FAA said in a statement.

The pilot exited the plane on his own and was not injured, the Harvard Fire Protection District said. Firefighters worked to prevent more fuel from leaking from the aircraft.

No further information was immediately available.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration continue to investigate the crash.
