Indiana HIV outbreak affects more than 100

SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. (WLS) -- An HIV outbreak among intravenous drug users in Southeastern Indiana is now affecting more than 100 people according to state health officials.

In addition to 95 cases confirmed as of yesterday, 11 more preliminary positive cases are now tied to the outbreak.

Most of the cases are in Scott County near the Kentucky border.

Gov. Mike pence declared a public health emergency last month. A limited needle-exchange program in Scott County aims to control the outbreak.
