A new program in Illinois helps residents save money for their child's college tuition every time they shop. On Wednesday, the state treasurer's office announced a new feature to the Bright Start college savings program.

It's a MasterCard that, when used, contributes a one percent cash rebate on the amount of every purchase to the card member's college savings account.

Bright Start is a state-sponsored 529 plan that allows Illinois families to save and invest money, tax free, to help cover college expenses.
