An investigation is underway into what sparked a fire that raced through three homes on the city's South Side early Thursday morning. The fire began in one abandoned building near 64th and Stewart. It spread to a vacant building next door and damaged a third nearby house, which was occupied.

It took crews nearly an hour to put out the fire in the three buildings.

The resident of the occupied home made it out safely. No one was hurt.
