A Boston hospital will become the first in the US to start performing face transplants. The New England Organ Bank has given Brigham and Women's hospital permission to do the controversial surgery.

You may recall, the procedure was first performed in 2005 for a French women who was mauled by a dog. She received a new chin, nose and lips.

Critics question the procedure saying face transplants are unethical because they may risk a patient's life for an operation that is not life-saving.

Brigham and Women's says it could be months or even years before a suitable donor and recipient are found.
