Discovery could help predict lung cancer recurrence

A report in the New England Journal of Medicine says researchers could see changes in four genes of patients whose cancer returned within five years. The discovery might be used as the basis for a new kind of DNA test.

Patients who have the genes might consider special chemotherapy after surgery or they may be candidates for newer targeted types of therapies.

Researchers are also hopeful the findings will lead to new treatments for lung cancer.
