There's a new kind of gold rush at jewelry stores and pawn shops across the country. Many have been digging through jewelry boxes and safety deposit boxes to cash in because gold prices reach nearly $1,000 an ounce.

Coins, old wedding rings and hand-me-down jewelry are being traded in.

The struggling U.S. economy and talk of a recession have driven the price of gold up.
