Chicago police shot and wounded a man on the city's South Side early Thursday morning. An investigation is now underway into the shooting, which happened on South Halsted and 76th Street. But officials say the officers opened fire after the offender allegedly fired on them first.

The officers were not hit during the gunfire. But the man was wounded in the leg. He is now hospitalized in good condition.
