Stay fit, trim to reduce diabetes risk

Another reminder of the importance of staying fit and trim:

Researchers at the University of South Carolina tracked more than 6,000 women for 17 years. All were free of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. By the end of the study, 143 women had developed type 2 diabetes. Researchers found that women who were the least fit and the heaviest were at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Their findings are reported in the journal Diabetes Care.
