Girls still not getting enough exercise, research shows

A study from the University of Minnesota finds girls are less likely to do physical activity than boys and more likely to drop out. Researchers point to a number of reasons, including poor body image and improperly trained coaches.

Suggested solutions include addressing body image in grade school and licensing standards for gym teachers and youth coaches.

Experts say athletic activity has many benefits including higher self esteem, more social opportunities, even better academics in addition to helping girls stay fit.
