An Illinois appellate court has cleared the way for thousands of south suburban residents to collect money from the owners of a refinery that is now closed. The court reinstated $120 million in damages to 6,000 Blue Island residents. They filed a class action lawsuit claiming pollution from the old Clark Oil refinery damaged homes and made them sick.

The decision reverses a Cook County judge's decision to dissolve the lawsuit.

Texas-based Valero Energy Corporation is planning to appeal this latest ruling.
