FDA tests Mexican imports for salmonella source

The Food and Drug Administration is expanding its search for the cause of salmonella tainted tomatoes to Mexican imports.Starting on Monday, the FDA inspectors will be testing some foods imported from Mexico including cilantro, Jalapeño and Serrano peppers, scallions and more.

The government interviewed dozens of victims and many report that they had eaten fresh salsa before getting sick.

The FDA says since mid April the salmonella outbreak has infected 943 people nationwide.
