'Race for Literacy' held in Chicago

A modern-day version of a race with a history that goes back 2,000 years was held Saturday.The Dragon Boat Race for Literacy, for the eighth straight year at Ping Tom Memorial Park, launched at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the Chicago Public Schools.

Twenty-seven boat teams participated. A colorful lion dance started things off.

Ethnic food, crafts, vendors, music and dancing all were a part of the day-long celebration in Chinatown.
