Choirs mark 75th anniversary of historic church

A national gathering of gospel choirs got a glimpse of what remains inside Chicago's historic Pilgrim Baptist Church Sunday.The National Convention of Gospel Choirs toured the salvaged space of the church. The group was founded by the late Prof. Thomas Dorsey, a member of Pilgrim and considered by many to be the father of gospel music.

Sunday's event commemorated the convention's 75th anniversary. Much of Pilgrim Baptist was destroyed by fire in January 2006.

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has made a controversial pledge of $1 million to help rebuilt
