Obesity could make diagnosing prostate cancer difficult

Men who are obese could have a tougher time being diagnosed with prostate cancer. New research suggests the problem may be due to obese men's larger blood volume which dilutes their PSA levels. High blood levels of PSA or prostate specific antigen can signal the presence of a prostate tumor.

By contrast, researchers found obesity had no effect on the risk of progression for cancers detected by digital rectal exam.

The findings are in the journal BJU International.
