New cyberbullying law in Illinois

Governor Rod Blagojevich signed the bill Monday. It clarifies what it means to harass someone by using electronic communication such as the internet and text messaging.

The new law is a response to the suicide of a Missouri teenager who received hurtful messages on the Myspace Web site in 2006. She thought they were from a boy she met but police say they came from a neighbor's mother.

The new law takes effect January 1, 2009.
