Former department store becomes art gallery

An historic building designed by architect Louis Sullivan has been transformed from a department store into a showcase for art.Carson Pirie Scott closed its State Street store more than a year ago.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago has transformed the space into what's now called the "Sullivan Galleries."

The galleries will be used for exhibitions, performances, lectures and screenings by students, faculty, guest artists and curators.

The Sullivan Galleries' debut includes two major exhibitions.
