Could hypnosis quell hot flashes?

A new study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found women who underwent hypnosis had an average 68 percent decrease in the frequency and severity of those hot flashes.

In addition, women said they experienced less anxiety and depression, and had significant improvements in sleep and their ability to perform daily activities, compared with women who received no treatment.

Experts say more studies are needed, but there is no reason to think it is not safe as long as the patient does it with someone who knows what they are doing.
