Boy Scouts help with Fire Prevention Week

More than 120,000 Boy Scouts from troops across the state are helping spread the word about fire prevention. They will go door-to-door in their neighborhoods handing out fire safety door hangers, which promote the importance of having a fire escape plan and a safety checklist.

The groups include the Northwest Suburban Council, based in Mount Prospect, the Northeast Council based in Highland Park, Blackhawk based in Rockford, the Des Plaines Valley Council based in La Grange, Three Fires Council based in St. Charles, Rainbow Council, based in Morris, Calumet Council in Munster, Ind., and the Chicago Metropolitan Council.

The groups hope to distribute 750,000 door hangers during October, which is national Fire Safety Month. October 5-11 is fire prevention week.
