Families of homicide victims remember lost 'Dreams'

CHICAGO Those families came to the annual event held this year at the South Shore Cultural Center.

Candles were lit as symbols of the lives lost to violence. The theme of this year's event was "Dreams," and Cook County State's Attorney Dick Devine, who is retiring after 12 years in office, spoke to the families about what that means.

"The victims of crime are not statistics. You remind me that each one is a human being and the loss of that life is a loss of dreams," said Devine.

Another featured speaker was Brenda Brown, whose youngest son, Tawan, was murdered.
