In the study, researchers found that besides lowering stroke risk the top 25 percent of people who were physically active were two-and-a-half times more likely to suffer a less severe stroke than the least active men and women who did little or no exercise.
Exercise could help temper stroke
The study in the journal Neurology found people who took an hourly walk four times a week had less severe strokes than people who had little or no physical activity before they became ill.
