Boy survives ride in compacting truck

MILWAUKEE Caller: "We had a person come in, in the back of one of our trucks."

Dispatch: "Excuse me?"

Caller: "A person was in the back of one of the trucks."

Dispatch: "Okay. Is the person alive?"

Caller: "Yes."

Police say the boy was running away from his school and hid in a dumpster used for cardboard recycling. A truck picked up the dumpster Tuesday then drove to Germantown. It compacted the cardboard inside several times. An alert worker noticed the boy in the pile.

"He saw something in the pile that looked like a person so all we did was just dive in and start -- cardboard flying everywhere and digging and digging," said Tim Plzak, found teen in dump truck.

The boy was taken to the hospital for cuts and bruises -- and was later released.
