Crowd celebrates Virgin of Guadalupe

A huge crowd turned out on Thursday in Des Plaines for the annual celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe.Aztec dancing was part of an evening of festivities that will continue past midnight.

It's the 477th anniversary of the day that the Virgin Mary is said to have visited an Aztec native who converted to Catholicism.

"Our lady of Guadalupe is a celebration of love, faith, an encounter with the woman, the mother of God," said Catholic priest Fr. Miguel Martinez.

The celebration will happen again on Friday at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines.
